DIY- Multi-Crepe Paper Decor

DIY- Multi-Crepe paper (not just for birthdays)

Thanks again to Bow Ties and Bliss for sharing!

Get ready to LOVE this idea! Crepe paper or, known more fondly as… streamers! They are sold by the roll at most dollar stores or party stores, or you can order them online from websites like Paper Mart and Birthday Direct, where they are anywhere from $1.05 to $1.20 each and come in loads of fun colors, even polka dots and zebra stripes.

Here are some different ways to incorporate these money-saving magic rolls of fun in a chic, non-cheesy way (because we all remember stringing these across the ceiling for birthday parties when we were little…)

Enjoy!

1.     String colorful streamers across your venue ceiling for the perfect pop of color! (DO NOT TWIST LIKE WE DID FOR BDAY PARTIES)

2. Tie different colored streamers onto a piece of rope for an instant backdrop for your cake table. Add strips of ribbon for more versatility.

3. Colorful streamers instantly dress up the back of the bride and groom’s chairs. Too cute!

4.     This couple used a variety of streamers across their venue ceiling to tie in their color theme with the rest of the decor. Doesn’t it look so gorgeous in contrast with all of the white? Love. Especially the whimsical twisted streamer every now and then.

5.  How about these darling crepe paper flowers decorating a simple cake?

6. Its just as easy to make a ceremony backdrop with crepe paper as it is to make a backdrop for your dessert table. Just make sure it’s not too windy :)

Wow! Who knew there were so many uses for your typical birthday party décor? Stock up at a party store or after a holiday and be sure to send us your DIY projects with crepe paper!

Happy crafting

Feature Friday- Kate & Sean-Marbella Country Club-May Wedding

Feature Friday- Kate & Sean-Marbella Country Club-May Wedding

This week’s feature Friday is Kate & Sean, one of my upcoming couples for a May 26th wedding at Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano. Kate called our office one day and made an appointment with me for flowers and coordination. Right away, Kate and I hit it off and she was glad to have my help (and I was glad to give it!) in the planning process. Over the last six months, we’ve worked closely to create her dream day and now it’s right around the corner….

Marbella country Club is located in southern Orange County. Per their website:“Situated in the lush rolling hills of San Juan Capistrano, the Mediterranean-inspired Marbella Country Club sets the standard for outstanding amenities and superb hospitality.  Blending the time-honored traditions of golf with modern, upscale conveniences, the club boasts an award-winning championship golf course.” Located inside a housing community gives this location a private setting, along with luscious grounds.

Kate & Sean are using a range of purple and pink flowers & linens with beach accents.

Here are a few pictures from our tasting appointment held in February for Kate & Sean:

The entrance to the Club includes a large fountain and valet service.

Cockatil Hour will take place on the patio with fire pits and piano music.

The Ceremony location

These stairs lead to the patio where the reception will be held.

The staff is great-thanks to Tera and Lyslie for helping us with all the details for Kate & Sean’s big day!

And of course, I could help but share a few engagement shots by True Bliss Photography-Kelly is so talented!

Extreme DJ will also be on the vendor team. Eric is one of my favorite DJ’s! A great couple and a great team, this wedding is going to be fantastic! I’m looking forward to it!

DIY Banner

DIY- Banner

Today’s DIY comes from our favorite crafter Martha Stuart!

Why save the traditional Just Married sign for your car-aided exit? Hang it up at your reception and you’ll get more time to enjoy its message. Better yet, spell out your sentiments letter-by-letter using the alphabet template.

Each character is encircled by a different border, a whimsical take on the old-fashioned look of vintage typewriter keys.

What You Need:
- ivory/white card stock
- ribbon in your wedding color(s)
- hole punch
- 3 in. circle punch
- scissors
- a printer
- Martha Stewart’s Banner Template

Directions:
1. Download the PDF templates for the letters you require. Consider: Love Sweet Love, Happily Ever After, Mr & Mrs, bride and groom names, etc. You get the idea.

2.  Print the letters you require on card stock in the color of your choice and gather your materials.

3. Cut out the letters from the individual pages that you want. They resemble vintage typewriter keys, so you can alternated the four designs throughout.

4. Turn your circle punch upside down and insert your letter cutout into the punch so you can see the letter coming through to line it up properly. Punch.

5. Using your hole punch, punch two holes at the top of each letter.

6. String your letters on your ribbon and voila!

Bride, Natalie gives these tips:
- Use spacer circles or other punch shapes, such as hearts in your contrasting wedding color, to break up your words on the ribbon. String them on the same way. I included a 3-inch blank circle at the start, the end, and between the words “Just” and “Married.” I plan using some of Recollections’ yellow floral embellishments on these with glue or double-sided tape to match the ribbon used.

DIY Monday- Window Picture Frame

DIY Monday- Window Picture Frame

Who doesn’t want to gaze longing out a window at a beautiful wedding portrait?

Within minutes of finding this jewel on Pinterest, the repining was out of control! As with most of my DIY posts, these projects can be used for all sorts of keepsakes beside weddings, but how stunning to see you and your groom behind so romantically displayed! Love it!

What you need:

Foam core board

Glazier points

Eye screws on the top of the frame and

Chain or wire

Black and White Photo- (I recommend Costco-11 x 14 is ony $10)

Window Pane- (this can really vary. You can always paint if it’s not the right color. I saw quite a few on Ebay ranging from $15 to $75. You can always keep an eye out at flea markets, swap meets and garage sales)

How to:

1.     Odds are your picture isn’t going to be the exact size you need so get it printed, then cut down to size.

2.     Cut foam core board to fit behind photo- this will fill the space between back of pane and picture.

3.     Use Glaizer points (found at any hardware store) to hold the backing in place

4.     Screw eye screws into top of frame and use wire or chain to hang

5.     Admire your wedding day from any room in the house!

-OR- do this project before the “I dos” with an engagement picture to hang at the reception.

Variations:

1 picture per pane

Feature Friday~ Wedding Day Hairstyles

Feature Friday- Which do to do? Wedding Day Hairsyles

It’s your wedding day! Time to get all glammed up. Hair, Make up, Jewelry, Manicure, Dress, Shoes. When it comes to hairstyles, there are plenty to choose from. Here are a few our favorites:

Half up and half down: Want long sweeping locks? To be realistic, you’ll want your hair out of your face, so pin back the top half. Tease up or pin curls back to create a dramatic yet, tolerable do for the day.

Side pony-I am in love with sweeping strands on the side. Especially when you include a hair clip or barrett. Ask your hair dresser to use your accessory or veil in the trial hair appointment so you can see what placement looks best.

Short Hair- you are a little more limited with short hair. Feathers or flowers will grab more attention as will your veil. Loose curls will give an elegant but casual feel.

Up-do: the most popular hairstyle for brides- stunning styles will add the icing on the cake for your attire. Whether curly or straight, something to consider is the length of time your hair will be done up. Typically a bride gets her hair done hours before the ceremony and needs it to maintain it’s glamour until reception. (around 10 hours total) If you have thin hair, you may want to nix the curls but still get an elegant up do. If you’re blessed with thick hair-the options are endless! Complete with flower of course!

All Down: Simple yet elegant. If you’re not into thousands of bobby pins protruding your head all night, opt for simple, loose curls all down. Remember how gorgeous Jen was with Brad?

DIY Monday-Vellum Photo Frames

DIY Monday-Vellum Photo Frames

I once attended a baby shower with tables decorated with an assortment of adorable photos of the little girl printed on vellum with a candle illuminating from behind. This is a great way to add photos of you and your groom in something more romantic than a regular frame?

Here’s the gist: They consist of three hinged photo frames set around votive candles. The black-and-white photos are printed onto vellum paper (you can buy at Joanns), which is translucent enough for the images to be visible by candlelight.

What you need:

Paint or wood stain (if desired)

Vellum

Cloth Tape

Votive Candle (electric works too)

Printed Pictures

Follow these easy 5 steps:

1.Disassemble three like-sized frames, setting aside their fronts and discarding their backings.

2. Paint or stain wooden frames desired color; let dry.

3.  Upload or scan photographs into a computer. With editing software, make the images black and white, and resize them to fit your frames. Print them onto vellum paper with an ink-jet printer.

4. Slip the images into the frames.

5.Using cloth tape, hinge frames together to form a triangle. Stand frames around a candle in a protective glass holder.

Thank you Martha Stewart!

To Vary this project: print out pictures and modgepodge onto Dollar Tree cylinder vases-so easy and cheap!

Feature Friday~ Ceremony Decor

Feature Friday-Ceremony Décor

Whether you’ve decided on a Church, backyard, hotel or golf course, the setting needs to be perfect for all those picture moments of saying  ‘I do’.

There are lots of factors to consider with Ceremony décor. If you’re going the traditional church route, you are more limited on the amount and what you can actually bring in. Churches are also more ornate and don’t need very much enhancement. If you’re outside, what is the backdrop? Overlooking the ocean? You may not need a giant arch and tons of things blocking your view. Or perhaps it’s a bit plain with neutral colors and you need a lot to make those photos really pop.

We’ll feature a few different ideas for you to consider. This will be especially helpful when you come in to meet with us so you have an idea of what sort of flowers you’ll need for your ceremony.

CHURCH-the general rule is no destruction of property-no tape, staples, etc. We typically use 2 large altar pieces (that may or may not be transportable to reception) and aisle décor. As I mentioned, the interior of your church  probably has enough detail that you will be fine with a few elements.

But I would definitely include 2 altar pieces. These two pieces are critical to frame you and your groom in for pictures and the bonus part is I can transfer to your reception to place on either side of your sweetheart table.

AISLE DÉCOR- Sometimes you just need a little something down the aisle. This is suitable for indoors or out. Clusters of flowers can be tied or hung from chairs or pews. (Again, can be reused in reception for décor).

Kissing Balls- A popular trend right now with my brides have been the hanging kissing balls. These flowers are formed into a volleyball sized ball and hung from shepherds hooks down the aisle. If indoors, the hooks can be plastic instead of iron staked.

A bonus part of this idea (again popular with my current brides), is to pop the kissing ball onto a vase or stand as a centerpiece!  Its very stunning!

ARCH DÉCOR- There may be an arch at your venue, (or you can always rent from us!) but you definitely need to decorate with fabric or flowers, or both! Keep in mind you will probably be taking a lot of pictures here-before, during and after the ceremony. So you want this be well dressed!

Depending on budget, I always recommend at least one large spray for the center so you can have something for the sweetheart table décor.

RESUSING CENTERPIECES- One of the great things about Petals by Xavi is we are there to transfer and reuse any flowers we can from ceremony to reception. Here are a few examples of using centerpieces down the aisle:

Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach

Orange Hill Restaurant-Orange

Whatever venue you choose, don’t skip the ceremony décor. You won’t be sorry when you see your pictures and see how it transforms the space!

Be sure to ask your consultant how to reuse pieces and make it fit into your budget!

Happy Planning!!
